SCOTTRADE CENTER (KTVI-FOX2now.com) -
While the St. Louis Blues hope to win just one game in their playoff series against the Vancouver Canucks, some fans believe the number 33 will bring them good luck. The first time an NHL team came back from a 3-0 playoff deficit was 1942. It took 33 years for it to happen again in 1975. If you add 33 hockey seasons to 1975 you get 2009. A lockout washed out the 2004-2005 season.
Is it more than just coincidence that Blues goalie Chris Mason celebrated his 33rd birthday on Monday? And take into account that coach Andy Murray's birthday is March 3rd or 3-3, it seems like destiny for the Blues to win, doesn't it?
"I do believe in numbers and that's interesting," said Carl Zey, a Blues fan who offered a more solid explanation for why his team is struggling.
"Just being outplayed right now by a team that has a little better talent," he said.
Other fans say just being back in the playoff was a thrill.
"Just gave you chills when that anthem kicked in and everything like that it's just playoff hockey is back and hopefully it sticks around for several more weeks," said Brian Werner, Blues fan.
He was buying a new jersey for game 4.
Pretty much all my jerseys are either yellow or white so I had to get my blue T.J. Oshie jersey for tomorrow night and tomorrow I'm heading out to get my hair chopped and some blue tips in my hair," said Werner.
And while some fans have already given up, Brianne Lindemann has not. She was picking up tickets for game 4 and feeling confident her Blues would find a way to win even if the odds don't look good.
"I'm really hoping they do," she said.
