Family and friends are mourning the loss of 16-year-old girl, Briana Carron of Defiance, who did Sunday night after a car crash. Around 8:30pm, she was driving on Route D in St. Charles County when her car inched its way off the right side of the road.
Investigators say the young driver overcorrected and her Chevy cavalier crossed the center line hitting a pickup truck head on.
The 47-year-old truck driver, who had two boys on board, suffered only minor injuries.
The high school junior was not wearing a seat belt, atragic mistake for a Francis Howell High School junior with a bight future.
Principal Chris Greiner told FOX 2, "Brianna was involved in our DECCA program, our Future Leaders of America program and recently attended a field trip to New York City through the FLA. So she had a bright future ahead of her in either marketing or business."
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol seat belt usage has dropped over the past year, ranking Missouri below the national average.
