MARYVILLE, IL (KTVI - FOX2now.com) -
Visitation services for slain Pastor Fred Winters will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Maryville. Funeral service will also be held at the church on Friday at 10:30 a.m. A graveside service following the funeral is for family only.
Pastor Winters was gunned down during Sunday service. Police say Terry Sadlecak, 27, of Troy, Illinois was the shooter. He is charged with first degree murder and aggravated battery. Evidence seized from the attacker's house reportedly includes a planner in which he labeled Sunday "death day". There is still nothing to suggest why the suspect came to this church with a gun and a knife. Neighbors say he suffered from mental illness related to Lyme Disease. Sedlacek remains in the hospital for self-inflicted stab wounds.
Many parishioners are seeking counseling about the death of their pastor. More counselors specially trained in crisis intervention are on their way to Maryville from the "Billy Graham Rapid Response Team."
A memorial fund has been established for the Winter's family. Gifts may be made to the Winters Family Memorial Fund: Payment by Phone: 618-345-1000 Mail: Winters Family Memorial Fund Scott Credit Union 1100 Beltline Road Collinsville, IL 62234
