Everyone's complaining about the cost of groceries but we've found ways to get good food for a whole lot less.  Kelly Robinson is a volunteer with Angel Food Ministries a non-profit group that sells food at deep discounts.

"It's a great way to save 50% on your grocery bill," Robinson said.

Food is trucked from a warehouse in Georgia to 35 states.  There are more than 20 drop off sites at churches across the St. Louis metro area but you do not have to be a church member to participate.  Everyone--regardless of income--is invited.  For just $30 you get a box full of food.

Robinson told us, "Every month the menu changes and each unit of food, as it's referred, is designed to feed a family of four for a week or a single person for a month."

Included are things like ribeye steaks, eggs, chicken leg quarters and thighs, breaded chicken tenders, quarter pound beef patties, sausage, tater tots, corn, mixed vegetables.  People who participate are helping others.

Robinson says, "For every order placed through a given church, angel food rebates a portion of the purchase price back to the church to be used to help the community."

At Shop'n Save, customers get $10 off a $50 grocery purchase on select Thursdays.  Stores average two "coupon Thursdays" a month.  You do not need a coupon to get the  discount.  Announcements are in circulars sent to homes.

Aldi keeps costs down with a 'no frills' philosophy.  Stores close nightly at 8pm to save money on lights and labor.  Customers--not workers--are in charge of the carts, plus, you'll bag your own groceries.  Aldi says lower overhead keeps costs down and estimate shoppers save 35-45% over traditional supermarkets.
