MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) -
She has sung for the Queen of England, and now St. Louis jazz singer Denise Thimes will soon perform for First Lady Michelle Obama. Denise stopped by FOX 2 News in the Morning on her way to the White House and shared which tune she will be singing for Mrs. Obama. Thimes also talked about another encounter she had earlier this week, but this one was with the police. Thimes tells FOX 2 on Tuesday she was detained for disturbing the peace while having a meal at Culpeppers.
"I was in a west end restaurant Culpeppers. I was having lunch with a friend and there was screw in his soup," Thimes said. " We called the waitress over and she got the manager, waitress saw the screw and the manager immediately insinuated that we put the screw in the soup and did not give it back to us. The officer came in and he immediately thought what we were doing was silly, called us silly four times and he wrongfully arrested me," she explained.
Thimes says she was very firm telling them that she wasn't going to leave until they gave her back the screw, but that waitress wouldn't give it back. She was taken downtown to the police station, but not booked into jail. We are waiting for a response from Culpeppers. In the meantime, Thimes is on her way to Washington to sing at an event at the Kuwait Embassy.
You can see Denise Thimes perform here in St. Louis at a special fall benefit concert: "A Musical Tribute to Vocalist Roberta Flack." The event will be held at the Sheldon Concert Hall on November 3. The concert benefits pancreatic cancer. For more information call 314-773-0337.
