ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) -
Police have a suspect under arrest who is accused of gunning down 3 women inside a car parked at an East St. Louis gas pump on Saturday night. Police say the suspect was taken into custody in St. Louis City. They are not identifying him until charges are filed but say he knew the victims. "We know for a fact it was someone they knew," said Det. Kenneth Berry, East St. Louis Police Department.
The victims were Jamaica McDaniel,24, Raykel Gathing,26, and Tanikia Harvey, 26.
"They haven't done anything to nobody they truly didn't deserve what happened to them," said Arnella Lewis, a cousin of McDaniel.
The 3 murder victims were not the only ones inside the car.
"There were also three juvenile, male boys in the cars as well but they weren't hurt," said Detective Berry.
McDaniel was the mother of 2 of those children. The third was the son of Harvey.
"It's just unexplainable actually," said Lewis.
She said McDaniel would have done anything for her children and in fact she dove to try and protect them as the fatal shots were fired.
"She loved the kids," said Lewis. "She would have done anything for them."
Police were still searching for the suspect's car on Sunday night. They say it is a white, 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis with Illinois plates X101-862.
