EUREKA, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com)—
Students arrived at Eureka High School Wednesday morning with heavy hearts, knowing that one of their classmates would not be back. Fourteen year old Delonte Campbell collapsed at football practice Monday afternoon and died Tuesday night. Many are baffled because the day was not hot, and the practice not particularly strenuous.Rockwood school superintendent Kim Cranston says, "It was a very light practice and they were actually going over a lot of formations a lot of informational session."
This is the e-mail sent out to parents Tuesday:
"It is with deep sorrow that I inform you of the death of one of our freshmen students. Delonte Campbell died this evening, Tuesday, Sept. 15, at St. Louis Children's Hospital. He was taken there after being transported to St. Anthony's Medical Center because he suffered a medical emergency during football practice late yesterday afternoon.
I will share this information with EHS students via an announcement on Wednesday morning. Additional counselors will be brought in tomorrow and will be available for students who want to talk to them.
As information about arrangements becomes available we will be sure to share this with you as soon as possible. Our hearts go out to Delonte's family. We extend our deepest condolences to them in this time of loss.
Jim Wipke Eureka High School Principal"
