ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) - Fair goers sat shoulder to shoulder beneath the Gateway Arch while others stood on Leonore K. Sullivan Boulevard to watch towering fireworks fill the Saturday night sky. Thousands dodged raindrops to celebrate the Fourth of July on the St. Louis riverfront. The event, on the grounds of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, was free, but food prices hit seven dollars for some sandwiches and seven dollars for beer. Local charities and not-for-profits operated the drink booths to raise money for their activities.

U.S. Bank and Enterprise Rent-A-Car co-sponsored the riverfront fireworks. Despite a cloud filled sky that seemed to soften the colors of the pyrotechnics, visitors oohed and ahhed as the sparkling shells exploded above the Mississippi River. The fireworks were synchronized to recorded pop and rock music that celebrated the American way of life.

AOL's Digital City website rated Fair Saint Louis the fifth best fireworks display in the U.S. this year, ranking it ahead of New York City and Chicago.
