MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) -
Some big name entertainers will take the stage Sunday at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, but their performance is about more than just the music. Last minute preparations for Farm Aid were underway Saturday. Organizers hope the big name performers will help out small, family farmers across the country. Willie Nelson, John Mellancamp, Dave Matthews, Gretchen Wilson and more are all scheduled to perform.
Nelson, Young, and Mellencamp organized the first Farm Aid concert in 1985 to raise awareness about the loss of family farms and to raise funds to keep farm families on their land. Farm Aid has raised nearly $35 million to promote a strong and resilient family farm system of agriculture.
