BRENTWOOD, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) -
A fatal crash on Hanley Road on Sunday afternoon was being linked to stolen paint. One person died in the head on crash. Police say Terence Holloway took off at a high rate of speed after stealing two cans of paint from Home Depot. That's when his Jaguar crossed over into the path of an SUV. "I knew what had happened it was a bad accident," said Raleigh Johnson, a neighbor.
Those who heard the crash knew right away just how bad it was.
"You could tell how bad it was because you could hear this a mile to a mile and a half away," said Johnson.
Police believe Holloway drove off at a high rate of speed after seeing a police officer near the Home Depot.
"He proceeded back north on Hanely and lost control of his vehicle crossed two lanes of traffic and struck a southbound vehicle that was driven by a lady," said Chief Steve Disbennett, Brentwood Police.
The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries, possibly a broken toe.
Chief Disbennet said there was no chase.
"He apparently saw the police car and executed a u-turn and before the police could even start after him he took off at a high rate of speed and lost control of his car," said Disbennett.
He felt fortunate no one else was badly injured or even worse killed.
An accident reconstruction crew from St. Louis County Police investigated the crash but for now police say Holloway is to blame for the crash that killed him.
