ST. GEORGE, MO (KTVI - FOX2now.com) -
A freak accident Saturday left firefighters and residents of a south St. Louis County condo complex shaken. A car fire took the life of a two-year-old girl trapped inside. It happened about 2:30PM Saturday on Villaridge Ct. at the entrance of the Southbridge Condominiums off Reavis Barracks in St. George.
St. Louis County police reported a relative of the two-year-old was driving her home when her own child began choking. The 25-year-old driver pulled over but her car ran over a steel post sign. The post damaged the car's gas line or gas tank causing a fire. The woman pulled her own child out of the car but could not reach her niece.
"We're all crying, very emotional," said St. George Alderwoman Mary Kaufmann. "It's very tragic. Our hearts go out to the family and if there is anything we can do as a community either through Southridge or St. George please let us know. We're here for you," she added.
The 2 year old has been identified as Faith Miller, 2 years of age, of the 9000 block of Bunker Hill in St. George.
Affton firefighters responded to the 9-1-1 call but could not save the child. Their department offered them help to deal with the emotional experience.
