WOOD RIVER, IL (KTVI-FOX2now.com) -
The H1N1 swine flu vaccine is available Thursday morning in Madison County, Illinois. There is a limited supply of the H1N1 vaccine. It is the nasal spray formulation and is meant for people ages 2 to 24 who are healthy, not pregnant and who do not have any chronic diseases like asthma or diabetes. The vaccine is being given at the Madison County Health Department in Wood River at 101 E. Edwardsville Road from 9 until noon. At other clinics across the country, patients lined up hours early to ensure they got the vaccine.
There is a delay in production of the vaccine. The federal government originally promised 120 million swine flu vaccine doses by now, but only 13 million have come through. Health official say pharmaceutical companies have to develop two vaccines this year, the H1N1 and the seasonal flu vaccine.
