(KTVI - FOX2now.com) - Three years ago the kidnapping of baby Abby Woods captivated St. Louis and the nation. Now, FOX 2 is the only local television station to talk with the woman who stole the newborn and slashed her mother's throat. Fox 2's Mandy Murphey talked exclusively with Shannon Torrez from the prison where she speaks openly about the painful, life-changing event.

Shannon Torrez kidnapped a 7 day old baby girl three years ago sparking a national manhunt for a baby snatcher. Torrez's own family would discover the stolen baby and turn their loved one and baby Abby over to police. Torrez is now serving a 30 year prison term for the kidnapping and attack on baby Abby's mother. She slashed Stephanie Ochsenbine's throat inside her Franklin County home before stealing her infant.

Torrez is now explaining more about her own tragic events leading up to the kidnapping. Torrez had been pregnant for a third time. She miscarried twice before becoming pregnant in 2003. She delivered a full term stillborn baby in September, 2003. Hours later she kidnapped Abby.

Her doctor diagnosed Torrez with postpartum bipolar disorder, a major illness that affects women hours after they give birth. They become delusional and lose touch with reality. Torrez now apologizes to Ochsenbine for the pain she caused. She says she is paying the price daily while spending the next 30 years behind bars.
