FREEBURG, IL (KTVI-FOX2now.com)—
A deadly car accident Monday morning took the life of a woman near Freeburg, IL. Investigators now think a drunk teenager is to blame for the head on crash. A pickup truck and the victim's car crashed on Route 13. The victim, 65 year old Frances Koon, was heading north on her way to work. Her friends say she was a seamstress and left for work early every day just to make sure she made it to work on time.Investigators say just before 5:00am, 19 year old Nicholas Wilson crossed the center line and crashed head on with Koon. Wilson is now charged with DUI according to the Illinois State Police.
Both are from Koon and Wilson are both from Lenzburg, a few miles south of the crash.
Wilson did have three passengers. They ranged in age from 19 to 21.Investigators say they were airlifted to St. Louis area hospitals. Investigators have not indicated where Wilson and his passengers were coming from but a friend says some of the boys were out all night and they stopped to pick up a friend for breakfast.
Those who knew Koon say she was the most humble person you could have met and will be sorely missed.
The victim's niece, Linda McCloskey, says, "Even her license plate said just me. You know it's me, just me. If you rode in her car or she wrote you a card - it said just me one on her license plate."
Katie Meyer is a friend of Nick Wilson. She says, "Nick is bawling. He knows what he did was wrong. I'm hoping they all learn not to drink and get in a vehicle and drive."
Illinois State Police will continue to investigate this crash. More charges could be filed.
