WSHINGTON COUNTY, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) - James Litherland, 83, is a veteran who survived two wars but ended up being shot on his own front porch in Washington County. The shooter or shooters got away but Litherland has red marks on the back of his neck and says some buckshot is trapped under his skin. He thinks the attackers used a 20-gauge, sawed-off shotgun and says his doctors were shocked that he's turned out to be just fine.

"They couldn't understand why I was still alive," said Litherland.

But several of his children say their dad who is a great, great grandfather is also a real fighter. In fact he has a warning for any of the suspects.

"If they beat on that door and they don't tell me who they are they'll get shot," he promised.

Many of Litherland's friends are eager to take justice into their own hands if they find the suspects but the victim just hopes an arrest is by the books and by the sheriff.

"Well I hope they lock them up and throw away the key because if they don't I've had about a dozen people tell me when they find out who it was they're going after him and I wouldn't want none of them to go after me," he said.
