COLUMBIA, IL (KTVI - FOX2now.com) -
World-renowned televangelist, Joyce Meyer, may soon have to testify in the civil case filed over the murders of a Columbia, Illinois mother and her two sons. Lawyers for Reverend Meyer hoped to argue that their client should not be any part of this case. Instead, they walked away with the strong possibility that she will have to testify about what she knew or should have known about this crime.
Murder suspect Chris Coleman worked as head of security for Meyer when Coleman's wife, Sheri, and kids were found strangled in May. Lawyers for the victim's family want the televangelist held accountable. Coleman reported a death threat months before his wife and kids were killed. It says in part "I will kill them all as they sleep." Since then, police say they traced that threat to Chris Coleman's own Ministry laptop.
Sheri's brother, Mario Weiss, wonders why Coleman's employer didn't find this out right away.
Weiss says, "The first question I hoped that would come to anybody's mind would be 'who wrote this?'. So anybody who saw those, whether it's a family member or acquaintance or even an enemy, I would think would want to find out where did they come from."
Sheri's family attorneys not only want to talk to the Reverend Joyce Meyer, but also her son who traveled with them, the webmaster for the ministry, and possibly murder suspect Chris Coleman himself.
Joyce Meyer's attorney didn't say much after Monday's hearing except his client acted responsibly every step of the way.
The next court date will be in December.
