BRENTWOOD, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) - There's more movement toward the long awaited end of the I-64/Highway 40 construction project. The intersection of Hanley Road and Eager re-opens Thursday afternoon. The ribbon cutting took place Thursday morning and the road should be open for traffic by the evening commute. But it's not all good news. Officials expect some confusion at the new interchange in the coming days. The new interchange has what's called a "jug handle" to help speed up traffic flow.

Instead of making a left turn from Northbound Hanley onto Westbound Eager, there will now be what looks like an interstate exit on the right side. Traffic will take the ramp, then loop under Hanley and onto Eager. Ramps from Eager to Hanley will also eliminate the need for a traffic light.

Dan Galvin, from Gateway Constructors, says people expecting a left and finding a right will likely cause problems as they try to shoot across two lanes of traffic. But once people have gotten through what he calls a "learning curve," Galvin believes traffic will flow much better in the area.

This begins what is expected to be a run of good news out of the Highway 40/I-64 project. The Big Bend Bridge is expected to re-open in about two weeks, and a more solid date on the re-opening for the highway itself is expected in the next week or two as well.
