JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) - With the economy the way it is who couldn't use a few extra bucks or maybe even thousands. The state of Missouri has a half billion dollars worth of unclaimed property most of it is cash. Some of the items found in abandoned safe deposit boxes by the state include jewelry, trading cards, coins, a Princess Diana doll and even cash.

In 2008, the state gave out more than $34 million in unclaimed cash. Sixty-five thousand people discovered they had money coming to them.

"I guarantee you if you put in a few names one of those is going to pop up as having unclaimed property by the state," said Missouri Treasurer Clint Zweifel.

To find out if any of the property is yours go to the state's web site put in your name in check. The average payout in Missouri is about $350 but it's not unusual for people to get more than $10,000.
