ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) - A Jefferson City man is accused of beating a woman then taking his clothes off on a Southwest Airlines flight headed to St. Louis. Flight 947 originated in Oakland, California Thursday morning. There were only 29 original passengers from Flight 947 that started out in Oakland and after a layover in Las Vegas came to St. Louis.

Flight 947 started in Oakland around 7 a.m. Thursday morning. About a half hour into the flight Southwest officials say a man exposed himself to a female passenger. When she screamed he allegedly hit her in the face and then stripped down naked and paraded up and down the aisle.

The flight attendants tried to subdue the man, finally getting him to sit in a seat and covering him with some kind of plastic sheeting. The pilot turned the plane around and returned to Oakland where the man was taken into custody without incident.

Passengers say the man was well over 300 pounds and had basically taken over the plane.

Chuck Jackson said, "Everyone was in shock but they were kind of quite to not startle anyone behind him."

David Zabetakis said, "It was easy to laugh after but during you donut realize how captive you are at 20 thousand feet with a big guy when you think back it scary but the flight attendants did a great job."

The plane then continued onto Las vegas before finally landing in St. Louis.

The assaulted woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to a California hospital. The suspect has been identified as 21 year old Dares Chappille.

He has addresses in both Oakland, California and Jefferson city Mo. the Cole County Sheriff's department says Chappille has 2 outstanding warrants for marijuana distribution and driving on a revoked license.
