ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI - FOX2now)—
One of the region's first successful sports bars is closing its doors Friday night. Ozzie's Restaurant and Sports Bar at Westport Plaza is the victim of the economic times and a legal dispute over the lease."All good things must come to an end," Cardinal great Ozzie Smith said Friday afternoon as he shook hands with fans, signed autographs and shared stories." He stood at the entrance to the restaurant as his sons carried out his Golden Glove awards and framed memorabilia that had been on display.
Restaurant owner Ray Gallardo praised the Hall of Famer for his role in the business. "Anybody can put their name up on the sign. But it is the involvement that Ozzie put into it this business that really help it to be a success."
Some patrons were regulars coming every week to share a lunch or after work happy hour with friends. Others saw Ozzie's as a spot for a special occasion like grandkids' birthdays or first dates.
The restaurant's contents from kitchen equipment to large screen tvs will be auctioned off October 24 and 25 beginning at 10am at the restaurant. Photos and descriptions of the items for bid will be posted on line at www.BCLAUCTION.com
