ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) - An early spring blast of wintry weather has dumped a slushy mix of ice and snow across Missouri and Illinois causing numerous traffic accidents and several power outages. The heaviest snow has run from Kansas City north and east through Quincy and up toward Chicago. The weather was so bad that at one point officials were forced to temporarily close the Kansas City airport. In St. Louis, about 1 to 3 inches of wet snow has fallen overnight.

Saturday's on and off rain showers changed over to snow showers as the day changed from Saturday to Sunday. Western portions of the FOX 2 viewing area, including the communities of Bourbon, Middleton, and Cuba, started reporting snow mixing with a little sleet as of 10:00pm. The snowfall is expected to end early Sunday with skies clearing quickly behind the storm. The snow is expected to melt quickly Sunday afternoon.
