Storms, Severe Weather Expected Wednesday Night
Thunderstorms rolled through the St. Louis area and a tornado watch is in effect Wednesday evening. The atmosphere is still cooking Wednesday night, as one batch of rain and storms kicks to the east and we wait for another batch later on. According to Chief Meteorologist Dave Murray, here's what's going on. There are no warnings in effect at 5:30 p.m., but we have two Tornado Watches, one south and east of downtown St. Louis until 10:00 p.m. – this will be dropped early, then another on the northwestern edge of the viewing area, also until 10:00pm.

Gasconade County in Missouri is under a Thunderstorm Watch until 11:00 p.m.

Scanning the Digital Doppler, you can see the first batch of rain and storms has been pushing away, the heaviest with downpours of rain and lightning running from Carlyle Lake to Mt. Vernon to Vandalia and Effingham, pushing away quickly

Taking a look from space, it is all about two batches of rain and storms that are easy to see. The first surge, east of St. Louis, will lift out by 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, then about a two hour break between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. A re-developing fast line of rain and storms comes with the cold front and will roll our way between 9:00 p.m. and midnight.

This is the stronger of the two batches, so widespread severe weather is possible later on Wednesday.
