Story from Sunday September 6, 2009:
The Major Case Squad has identified a suspect in connection with the murder of a Venice, Illinois man. Despite the holiday, they've launched a massive man hunt to find him. The Major Case Squad is meeting in Madison, IL but they are searching areas near Alton and St. Louis to find Diron Pinnix, 24. He was considered a person of interest in the case. But on Sunday, iinvestigators produced enough evidence for the County prosecutor to charge him with murder.
Police say the victim, Chaunci Dukes, was outside a nightclub when a fight broke out. Anger turned into gunfire a short time later. Dukes body was found a few blocks away in an alley. Those who know the victim say his murder is a total shock. They believe he was an innocent bystander caught in the middle of gunfire.
The man detectives say pulled the trigger has addresses in Venice, Alton and St. Louis. Police are going to every effort to track Pinnix down, even though this is a holiday weekend. Detectives from more than a dozen different departments are looking into leads in the case.
Pinnix is a black male about five feet six inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. Police say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
Captain Brad Wells with the Major Case Squad says, "It was very clear that when he left the scene he had a gun in his hand he just fired that gun and killed a human being and we have not been able to locate him so at this point we consider him armed and dangerous."
