ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) - A home for homeless veterans in St. Louis will get a makeover by local tradesmen and women and HGTV. An army of movers started work Friday on Hence Forland's house, clearing out everything and putting it into storage. The retired Army Sergeant, Forland recently won the makeover contest on the cable TV network. For the last several months Forland has been opening up his home for homeless veterans.

Forland says his home needs new plumbing, ceilings, floors, and electrical repairs. "There's no power in the sockets along the baseboards. On the first floor there's electricity but there's no power in the ceiling." The back porch has mostly collapsed and is also in need of repair.

While the home is under renovation, the veterans will be staying in the newly renovated Parkway Hotel in the Central West End. They will stay there a month, free of charge.
