World War II Vets Dedicate Statue At Jefferson Barracks

SOUTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com)—

Veterans of World War II's Battle of the Bulge gathered at Jefferson Barracks Saturday to dedicate a life-size bronze statue to all veterans of the war. The Battle of the Bulge was the critical battle in the winter of 1944-45 near the borders France, Germany and Belgium that hastened the end of the war. One of the veterans remembers clearly his first 72 hours on the ground. His division lost seven thousand men.

"It was ordinary men like this. We knew if we gave up they'd shoot us anyway so we said this isn't going any further," says WWII Vet Don Green.

These vets raised $60,000 for this statue. The dedication was St. Louis' only event commemorating the end of the World War II in Germany.
