WRIGHT CITY, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) -
A Warren County man has basically everything he owns stolen after his house is robbed twice in less than a month.
The crimes happened back in October.
Now a Wright City man is facing charges after cops find a lot of the stolen property inside his house and returned the items to the victim.
"It was terrible, it really was terrible," said 28 year old William Burke, the victim of the burglaries.
Burke was happy to be sitting once again on his leather couch for our interview. The couch was among all kinds of items stolen from Burke's home on South Stracks Church Road south of Wright City in the two thefts. Besides the couch, the love seat and matching chair were stolen, the dining room table and chairs were taken, seven TV's, appliances including this dishwasher, beds, DVDs and tools.
Burke said, "I really didn't know what to think. I just thought how could somebody do this, how could somebody just walk in and take everything you own overnight."
Investigators were puzzled until police in Wright City got a tip that led them to 27 year old Derek Neth of Wright City. Monday, authorities went to his home and found one of the stolen TV's on his porch. Inside Neth's house, police found lots of the other stolen items. There were even flowers on top of Burke's dining room table.
Warren County Sheriff Kevin Harrison said, "Basically the suspect furnished his home with this man's property."
Neth was arrested and is facing charges of receiving stolen property and possession of a controlled substance- cops also found what they believe to be heroin in the house. At this point, Neth is not charged with the actual burglary. Burke tells me years ago his grandmother ran a foster home and Neth lived there for a time. William is just glad most of his property was found and has been returned.
"It just makes me really happy. I thank God now," said Burke.
Investigators say they're working leads to try and track down the rest of Burke's items. Cops believe at least one other person was involved with the burglaries. That person is still at large. Neth is out of jail on an eight thousand dollar bond.
