Registered sex offenders are everywhere, living in neighborhoods all over the St. Louis area. So, how do you know if one is living on your block? Now parents have an important new tool at their fingertips. At the push of a button, the sex offenders app uses GPS technology to find your location.
Next it scours publicly available sex offender registries like you can find online, and puts them onto your hand-held device.
Angie MacBryde is getting her first look at a new "sex offenders search" app, which is available for the Iphone and Ipod touch.
"They're all surrounding our home and they are between here and our elementary school," she says.
The mother of three lives in Webster Groves, a community still on edge after a man allegedly approached several children near elementary schools back in the fall. When the children approached the man's car, they told police he was not wearing any pants. The man was never caught.
She says she doesn't want to scare her kids, but plans to use this information to make them more aware of their surroundings.
