COLUMBIA, IL (KPLR) - Murder victim Sheri Coleman's best friends are sharing their heartache over the loss of their dear friend. Kathy LaPlante and Meegan Turnbeaugh were like sisters with Sheri Coleman. On May 5th of last year, Sheri and her two young sons Gavin and Garett were found strangled in their home in Columbia, Illinois. Chris Coleman, Sheri's husband and the boy's father is now charged with their murders.

LaPlante and Turnbeaugh knew the Coleman's well. LaPlante found out about Sheri's murder when she glanced at her work computer to read the news headlines of the day. It showed a crime scene around her friends home.

LaPlante worked at Joyce Meyer Ministries with Chris Coleman. Turnbeaugh also worked there previously along with Sheri.

LaPlante wrote a journal of what she went through the day of the murders and what she said led up to the deaths. Her journal was subpoenaed as part of a wrongful death lawsuit against Chris and became public this week.

The journal describes a rocky relationship between Sheri and Chris.

It states Sheri told Kathy that if anything ever happened to her, Chris did it.

Turnbeaugh and LaPlante wouldn't give their true feelings about Sheri's death during our interview because they don't want to jeopardize the criminal trial.

They are raising money to build a memorial in Columbia for Sheri, Gavin and Garett. They want to remember Sheri for how she lived life to its fullest, not how she died.
