A group of aldermen from the City of St. Louis will meet with the city council from Kansas City about the petition drive to eliminate the earnings tax in both cities. Millionaire Rex Sinquefield has started a petition drive to hold a statewide vote on repealing the citys' earnings taxes.

If it succeeds, voters statewide would decide whether to force St. Louis and Kansas City to vote every five years on repealing the tax.

Sinquefield believes the earnings tax is a business killer. The city's 1% brings in about $137 million dollars a year, about one-third of the general fund.

One potential replacement for the money could be an increase in the sales tax, but that would not be included in this vote.

If Sinquefield can get 92,000 signatures, voters could get their say in November.
