ALTON, IL (KTVI - FOX2now.com) - A big boost is coming for struggling downtown Alton. The Simmons Law Firm is moving 250 high paying jobs to the region. For the first time ever the business is combining all of its branches into one location. The company is relocating to the old Smurfit-Stone Container Company. The five floor office building has been vacant since last fall, when the business moved out.

On Monday, the law firm gave away thousands of dollars worth office furniture to several schools and charitable groups.

Principal Melinda Fischer of Saint Peter and Paul Catholic School says this giveaway provides a big boost for groups that struggle yearly with tight budgets.

"We were able to get new chairs for all of our teachers. So it's going to be Christmas present when they get back in August."

The Simmons Law Firm is expected to move in late next year.
