A gas leak creates tense moments in Wentzville, Missouri. Emergency crews evacuated residents, shut down businesses and a major roadway. The folks at Hawk's Nest Liquor flew the coop, along with some 30 other people as eight businesses were shut down along busy business highway 61 West of East Pearce Boulevard. Construction crews widening that roadway were pulling out an old gas line when it rammed into a new gas line that ruptured.

When asked if they could smell gas Asst. Chief Austin Worcester of the Wentzville Fire Department said, "Yeah, absolutely, the level in our meters were well above explosion range."

Police officers went door to door moving people out. About eight guests were dislodged at an area motel.
