WEST ALTON, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) - An electrifying show of compassion at Ameren UE as workers support a family who's been through a tremendous tragedy. "I'm speechless. I'm so overwhelmed. People are so compassionate and so good." Fran Walters thanks Ameren UE workers for what they've done for her and her three children after her husband Chris was killed last month.

Fran reflects, "We have our good days and our bad days."

Chris, a Florissant, Missouri, man, traveled the country working at construction sites. In February, he was killed in an explosion at a power plant in Connecticut.

Rhonda Leach works at Ameren, "The power plant people, if we have one of our own that has a problem, we all step up and do whatever we can and we consider Chris one of ours because he's a power plant worker."

Chris' friends at Ameren spread the word that Chris did not have life insurance.

Jennifer Wolfrom also works at Ameren, "It was important for me to help out, to reach out, especially a member of the community."

Sheryl Rose from Ameren adds, "It seems like everybody pulls together on anything you ask them to do."

At least three power plants held fundraisers. Workers at the Amaren UE Sioux Power Plant say it is tradition to help others in the community.

Sharon Southerland who works at the Sioux plant explains, "We do this all the time, especially at the end of the year we have a Sioux plant adopt a family."

Fran says , "It's helped us out with regular old bills that you can fall behind on, things the kids need for school, basic things like that you take for granted." She will never take for granted the folks at Ameren.

So far, workers have raised $2,100 for the Walters family. There are more fundraisers planned.
