TROY, IL - (KTVI - FOX2now.com)—
A Troy, Illinois, man died from a drug overdose and now his friend is charged with his death. The investigation began Tuesday in a cemetery. The Major Case Squad was activated Tuesday when a body was found in a Friedens Church Cemetery in Troy, Illinois. Police say Michael Bovinett, 36, injected Chad Bell, 29, with heroin. An autopsy shows it killed him.Major Case Squad Major Jeff Connor explains, "The night prior to the discovery of the body our victim and suspect were out together and basically on a drug binge."
Bovinett faces a three count indictment including drug induced homicide, obstructing justice and concealment of a homicide.
Investigators aren't saying where the two men were partying together, but they say that's where Bell died. Bovinett then allegedly dumped Bell's body in the cemetery.
Connor says, "It was in the close proximity of that but we believe when he was placed in the cemetery, he was already dead."
Conner says police are seeing more and more cases of heroin abuse because it's become a very cheap drug to obtain. It's also highly addictive which often leads to deadly overdoses, "Heroine is a dangerous drug. We're seeing an increase in an overdose and we hope to send a message that this is a criminal case."
The Major Case Squad cracked the investigation in just two days, but Connor says they couldn't have done it without the help of the media and the public, "That's what makes a lot of the cases successful and I compliment the media and public for getting involved instead of looking the other way."
Bovinett is being held in the Madison County jail on a $1 million bond.
The Major Case Squad is still waiting for the final toxicology results.
