CARTHAGE, Mo. -
Carthage police say they believe a body they found wedged against a tree on the bank of Spring River is probably that of an 8-month-old whose father said was abducted from their home. Authorities found a lifeless baby on the riverbank near Carthage Saturday. Carthage Police Chief Greg Dagnan says an autopsy scheduled for Monday will confirm the child's identity but that he is almost certain it is Eddie Salazar Jr.
Eddie Salazar Sr. has been charged with filing a false police report saying his son had been abducted during a violent intrusion at his home in Carthage Thursday. He is being held on $100,000 bond in the Carthage City Jail.
Dagnan says 28-year-old Salazar is the primary suspect in the death of his son.
