ST. PETERS, MO ( KTVI-FOX2now.com )—
He's been on a one man stealing spree from Costco stores all around the St. Louis metro. Now, police are hoping some pretty clear surveillance pictures from Costco will help identify the man and put him behind bars. St. Peters police say he has hit all three Costcos in the St. Louis area in just the last month or so. The stores are in St. Peters, Manchester and South County.Investigators tell us he's after digital cameras and is stealing the same one every time. That camera is the Panasonic Lumix camera. Police say hes stolen several thousand dollars worth of the cameras.
Workers at the St. Peters Costco caught on when they discovered something the thief left behind.
"They found a cart full of empty camera boxes in a different part of their store. When they reviewed their surveillance tape, they noticed a white male that entered their store, selected those five cameras, went to a different part of the store, cut the boxes open, removed the cameras and memory sticks," explained Officer Melissa Doss, the spokesperson for St. Peters Police.
Investigators believe in each case, hes been putting the cameras into his jacket and has been able to leave the store before anyone has noticed anything. There were two thefts at the St. Peters store, one on February 7th and the second on February 16th.
In that case, were told he made off with five of the digital cameras worth a total of $1500.
The thefts at the other Costcos were on February 7th and February 28th.
Police want him off the streets now.
"If hes stealing from Costco, whats going to stop him from stealing from your house, from stealing from your car, from stealing from other stores," said Doss.
St. Peters Police say they are working with St. Louis County Police on the case.
