St. Louis County police were combing the Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in search of a burglary and carjacking suspect. That search was expanded after 10pm when officers began to suspect their man had slipped out of the area. The chase began when the man was spotted in an area of the Veterans Administration Hospital where he wasn't supposed to be.

St. Louis County Police Chief Timothy Fitch says VA police tried to apprehend the man in the hospital, but he got away. He ran into the adjacent Jefferson Barracks Cemetery, but that wasn't the last time he was seen. Police don't know what the man was doing inside the hospital

Police say he emerged near the entrance to a neighborhood nearby, and flagged down a car. He then pulled a gun on the two people inside, ordering them to get out. The driver of the car instead hit the gas, fleeing the area. No one was hurt.

The suspect was last seen rushing back into the cemetery, which police essentially had surrounded at 9:00pm Thursday.

During the search, a group playing kickball in a nearby park told of police rushing onto their field and telling them to drop everything and run. The players were told the area was unsafe. No one was injured.

Police say they're looking for a white man in his late 30's. He has gray and brown hair and is described as being about 5'10" and 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red tee-shirt with gold writing and blue jeans. He is believed to be armed.
