After 119 years of saving souls, the Immanuel Congregational Church on 3460 Jamieson Avenue is closing it doors to make way for a possible property development. The church on the south side of St. Louis will be holding an auction this Thursday at 10:00am to sell off everything in the church. Juanita Moore, the treasurer of the Immanuel Congregational Church says, "It's very sad, but what can we do? We've run out of money. It's being sold and everything inside and I mean everything will be auctioned off on Thursday."

The church was founded in 1891, with services at a home in the 6700 block on Hancock and a home next door for its pastor. Since the 1990s the church has fallen on hard times and its membership once in the hundreds, has dwindled to just 20 members.

Members will hold Easter service at the church, but its last service has been scheduled for April 11th, after which the doors will be closed forever on this once proud church. The new owners of the church have not disclosed its plans for the property, but there's some speculations that the church will be turned into condos.
