EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (KTVI - FOX2now.com)—
The "City Knights" club in East st Louis, a hang out spot that has been the scene of violence is destroyed by fire. The fire burned the club to the ground. Firefighters reportedly tried to hose it down from the inside, but weren't able to stay in there for long before the roof caught fire and the walls collapsed.
The fire started at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. There are no reports of any injuries.
"City Knights" has been in the news before. Back in October, a man was hit and killed by a car after a fight broke out here.Shortly after that, Mayor Alvin Parks, who is also the city's liquor commissioner, suspended the club's liquor license and moved to stop the sale of alcohol after 1:00 a.m. That early closing order was rescinded a few days later and now clubs can once again stay open until 6 a.m. No word yet on what might have started that fire.
