An update on the late night boat trip with friends on Lake St Louis Monday, that ended with a 17 year old dead. Lake St. Louis Police have how charged 23 year old David wells with Boating while Intoxicated. The Florissant teen tried to swim to shore Sunday, but didn't make it. Divers found his body Monday morning. Cole Schlogl grew up in a Florissant neighborhood, and played soccer at CBC and Trinity High Schools before dropping out. His friends say he was working on his GED in hopes of playing soccer at Florissant Valley. Those plans changed at about 12:30 a.m. Monday.

Cole and at least three other friends were out on a boat in Lake St. Louis and were headed back in at about 12:30 when the teen decided to swim the 30 feet or so back to shore. His friends noticed him struggling in the water and dove in after him, but it was too late. The Water Patrol is investigating whether or not alcohol played a part, and if so, if charges will be filed against any friends who provided it.

A friend who was with him says Cole was a strong swimmer and had been drinking, but was not drunk. They thought he was joking at first, but suddenly it was clear he wasn't. Instead of get ready to play soccer at Flo Valley they are getting ready for his funeral.

Darren Fears was Cole's friend, "He had a lot of things going for him. His life was starting to straighten out, getting ready to go to school and play on the same soccer team. I was glad because I helped him get there and I was glad to see his life was turning around."

Fears added, "He was a great kid, a good friend. I looked at him like he was a brother. He looked up to me. It's terrible. You never realize what good friends you had until they are gone."

There was another group of adults on a different boat passing by that tried to help as well. All of those efforts were for not. As far as Lake St. Louis police are concerned, no foul play was involved. But that Water Patrol investigation continues. Friends are planning a vigil in the neighborhood Monday at 8:30 p.m. to remember Cole.
