EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (KTVI - FOX2now.com)—
East St. Louis City Council members have voted to hire a new police chief. The council voted 4-1 this week to offer a three-year contract to 60-year-old Robert Jenne. Jenne says his primary focus will be rebuilding the department's image in this struggling city of about 28,000. He's currently a city administrator and police chief in Louisiana, Mo. He's expected to start in East St. Louis in mid-April.Jenne is set to make $90,000 a year. Mayor Alvin Parks says the city will pay $70,000, and East St. Louis Township will pay the rest.
Jenne's hiring is pending approval by the Financial Advisory Authority, which oversees the city's spending. He replaces current chief Lenzie Stewart, who took over in February of last year.
