Authorities in Jefferson County have called off a search for a man suspect who led police on a chase from the Metro East into Eureka, Missouri. During the manhunt, a body was found in the Big River, but authorities have not confirmed if it is the body of the suspect. The chase started after the suspect had a run-in with police at the Casino Queen in East St. Louis. From there, the suspect fled at high speeds through St. Louis County and into Jefferson County. Police say the suspect did fire shots at the Missouri Highway Patrol.Police say he jumped out of his car near Highway 109 near Eureka. Highway W was shut down between Eureka and House Springs while police searched a heavily-wooded area the river. After searching for about 2 hours, authorities found a body in the Big River.
While it is unclear why the chase began, the suspect was wanted on several warrants, including assault on a law enforcement officer.
