A would-be robber in East St. Louis is dead after a convenience store owner pulled a gun of his own during a hold up. Four men entered the store wearing hoodies and ski masks according to neighbors. According to police, all four were armed.Cops describe what happened next as a "physical confrontation" between the four men and the store owner. That's when the owner opened fire. One was killed and the three others ran for it. Police say two were caught a short time later.
While police say they never recommend confronting an armed attacker, some customers like how the situation played out. They consider it a warning to others.
"If you're going to rob a store," one store patron told us, "they come in with a gun, hey shoot them first save your life. That makes a lot of sense to me"
