ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) - A 17-month old boy from Collinsville, Illinois, is battling cancer at the Cardinal Glennon Medical Center. His family is tackling the disease head on – right along with him.

FOX 2's John Auble shows us the lengths they're going to show their support.

Daria Garcia explains, "My son came in as a 'failure to thrive child' – as a child who doesn't eat, or does eat and does not gain weight."

Doctors found the reason. Dorrian Blackwell is suffering from a brain tumor. They shaved his head, removed a portion of the tumor, and found it to be cancerous. Chemotherapy treatments began right away.

His mother, Daria Garcia, decided to show her support for her son by having her head shaved, too, and Daria's two daughters followed her lead, "It really surprised me because most little girls are so worried about how their hair looks. But, they seen their mother do it and they said, 'Mom, I want to do that for my brother, too.'"

Therapist David Ish wielded the clippers and, before you knew it, mom, Kylee and Kiara all had the same hairdo.

Besides Dorrian, Daria has three other sons, but, they did not share the enthusiasm for the head shaving project, "The boys are worse than the girls. 'No, not our hair.'"

Little Dorrian weighs only 14 pounds when he should weigh 35 or 40. Daria knows the family has a tough road ahead of them, "I'm awfully worried about him, but we are going to pull through this because we're fighters."

Daria says she'll keep her head shaved until his grows back again. Doctors say that may be some time, because the cancer treatments may result in continued hair loss.
