Police are still searching for four men who ditched the car they were riding in in south St. Louis after running down a 66 year old man crossing the street. It happened Thursday night on Kingshighway at Connecticut. Police say Roy S. Jones, 66 was killed when he was struck by the vehicle. Jones lived just a few blocks from where he was killed.

Julio Serra, an employee of the nearby Courtesy Diner, was taking out the trash when he heard what turned out to be the impact. He was startled by what happened next.

"Then I see two guys take off running," he says. "Then the cars stops, heading north bound on Kingshighway, it stopped right here between O'Reily's and National tire. I thought they were running after them but it turns out they were the ones that hit him."

Serra ran back into the diner, telling co-worker Hayley Russell. She went outside where emergency crews were arriving.

"They were giving the man CPR in the street and there was a car with all the doors open and didn't have a windshield," she says.

Asked what she thought about seeing this she replied, "People just need to stop acting crazy."

Police say they canvassed the area overnight, looking for more witnesses or evidence. They also had the car the men were in, which they said was being processed. Friday they were only saying that they had some leads and they were promising.

It was late Friday afternoon that Jones was identified as the victim. His address, on Potomac, is only a few blocks from where he died. Little is known about him, though the workers at the Courtesy Diner wonder, even worry, if they know him.

"If he ever came into my work I probably will know him. Probably served him coffee or something like that. I kind of hope it's nobody I know because it hit's closer to home then."
