Fenton, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) -
A fifty-five year old Fenton woman remains behind bars tonight after deputies say she stabbed her boyfriend nearly forty times. But Sharon Vilcek tells authorities her violent attack some time overnight between Sunday and Monday was a case of self defense.
Deputies say it began as an argument between Vilcek and her fifty-six year old boyfriend at their home on Paramount Court in Fenton. They say there's reason to believe alcohol was involved. Things got violent, though no one is saying just what led to the stabbing. But upon her arrest, Vilcek insisted to deputies that her actions were justified.
"She just said it was in self defense," Jefferson County Sheriff's Department Captain Ralph Brown says. "She kept repeating that. And again she said that it was a rocky relationship."
One neighbor, who asked not to be identified, says that rocky relationship was one Vilcek had been trying to exit for some time. The neighbor claims the boyfriend was abusive.
Deputies say after the stabbing, Vilcek left the apartment for a period of several hours. All that time, the boyfriend lay there bleeding, and apparently yelling for help.
"The sad part about it is, after we did a canvas we learned that between 12:01am and 2 am, noises were heard of a man calling out for help, and at no time did we receive a call for service in that vicinity," Brown says.
Another neighbor not wanting to give his name tells FOX 2 that, while he heard nothing the other night, noise coming from the corner apartment was nothing new. That, deputies believe, may be why no one called 9-1-1.
"Nobody bothered, or in talking to some of the neighbors, they felt there had been disturbances over there before, and they were just kind of overlooking it."
Brown says the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department has responded to about a dozen calls to the address in the last two years. But neighbors say Vilcek and her boyfriend have only lived there about six months, leaving it unclear as to how many of those calls might have been responding to them.
Vilcek's boyfriend remains in critical condition in an area hospital. Sharon Vilcek is being held on $750-thousand dollars cash only bond.
