FERGUSON, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com)—
Some Ferguson residents are fighting a plan to build a brand new CVS Pharmacy across the street from the Walgreens on North Florissant.Rd. The developer hoped to ease some concerns by holding an informational session with residents on Thursday.According to Cedarwood Development, 9 properties are under contract and CVS has been working with Ferguson council members to come up with a plan for the project.
"To be in the middle of a controversy is the last thing I want," said Ann Schisoholm, Ferguson resident.
She loves her community but began circulating a petition against the development. The new store would border her historic neighborhood.
"It's really a disaster for people who invested in some of the finest homes in this area and who enjoy a quiet place to live," said Nick Kasoff, Ferguson resident.
The developer hoped by meeting with residents they could find a compromise.
"We want to let people know what we have planned and we want to know what they like and don't like about the project," said Jim Wood, Cedarwood Development.
Wood promised to work with the city to include historic landmarks or make architecture changes if necessary. He promised the job would bring more than 30 permanent jobs and construction work for a year.
Some residents feel the benefits outweigh any problems.
Susan Donnell attended the meeting and felt residents should learn more but likes the idea of tax revenue and jobs for her city.
"I also think customers benefit from competition and that's good for all of us," Donnell.
