ST. LOUIS (KTVI - FOX2now.com)—
St. Louis City firefighters went door to door Saturday to distribute and install free smoke alarms. It's a program that they've been operating for years. Their work and the smoke alarms seem to have paid-off. The number of fire fatalities in the city has dropped dramatically over the years. One fire official says when he first started with the department more than three decades ago the annual number of fire deaths was more than a hundred. Once the smoke alarm program started the number of fatalities dropped.Last year, there were four fire deaths in the city of St. Louis. Firefighters want to get that number down to zero. If you'd like them to install a smoke detector in your home in the city call 314- 533-3406 weekdays during regular business hours or you can stop by your neighborhood firehouse.
