GREENVILLE, IL (KTVI-FOX2now.com) - Controversy is brewing after a playoff football game involving two Illinois teams. The playoff game between the hometown Greenville Comets and the visiting Tolono Unity is now the talk of the town. Players and some staff at Greenville High School have accused Toledo of trying to hurt their players with a sharp object during the playoff game.

"People come in here and talk about it all the time," says Teirney Isbill, a waitress at Lu-Bob's Restaurant in Greenville. "I think Greenville is making way too big a deal about it."

Resident Richard Koonce heard some Tolono players may have used tongue depressors sharpened at the tips to intimidate Comet players.

Koonce says, "If it's true I don't think its right, poor sportsmanship."

"They had sticks in their cuffs and they were cutting the jerseys," says Koonce.

These accusations first surfaced after these sharp objects were found on Unity's sidelines. Tolono officials said the sharp objects were used to remove the mud from the players' cleats. District superintendent Jeff Strieker reported the incident to the Illinois High School Association in Bloomington.

When contacted Monday, Strieker refused comment. Calls to Tolono High School and I.H.S.A. went unreturned.

Greenville lost its game against Tolono by the score of 58-53.
