NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) -
Photographs, clothes, groceries and toys are all gone after fire damaged the home of Patricia Woodson on Shulte Ave. in north St. Louis. "I'm going to take one day at a time," she said. The family grandmother is lucky to be alive. She relies on her wheelchair to get around and had to be carried out of her home by her children and grandchildren while her house was on fire. "I have something to be thankful for for Thanksgiving I have the lives of my grandchildren and children and myself," Woodson said.
She's also grateful the smoke detector inside her home worked.
"The fire department put them up and that's what saved our lives," said Woodson.
"Thank god it works," said Alan Dickerson, Woodson's landlord.
He helped board up the home on Sunday night so no one would go inside.
Woodson's children and grandchildren weren't the only ones inside. Three other girls spent the night.
"I don't know what I would have done if something would have happened to those 3 little girls," said Woodson.
Woodson know it's going to be hard to find a home while repairs are being made but she's not worrying, just hoping someone will help.
"I pray that they will, a little bit adds up to much," she said.
For now she's just grateful to be alive and thankful for her smoke detector.
