IMPERIAL, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) - An elderly woman drove her car through a dentist office in Imperial, Missouri Tuesday morning ending up in the waiting room. No one was in the area when the car plowed through the front wall of Schmitz Dental Care.

Employees treating patients heard the crash then ran to the lobby.

"It sounded like an explosion," said hygienst Jackie Brinkmann.

They discovered the car was still running and the elderly woman was trapped behind the wheel. They turned off the engine and talked with the woman keeping her calm until emergency workers arrived and removed her from the vehicle.

"She was shaken up, but she wasn't hurt," said dentist and owner Gerald Schmitz.

Office administrator Debbie Sullivan says the woman told employees she made a mistake while parking her vehicle.

"We asked her what happened and she said she was pulling into the parking spot and accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake."

Employees say had the woman arrived for her appointment just a few minutes earlier there would have been patients in the waiting area. They're grateful no one was hurt.
